What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm a productivity coach helping managers become more effective through minimalist productivity. I help them work less, achieve more, and live fulfilling, abundant lives without distractions, fear, or procrastination getting in the way. More than 1 million people have read my blog. I'm also a Top Writer on Medium. My videos on YouTube have been watched more than 100.000 times.

Tell us about yourself

My first job out of college was as a financial controller. Lots of numbers and spreadsheets. I started finding ways to automate tasks, to do more and better. I took the same approach to other parts of the job. I started reading books and long-form essays on how to best deal with email, optimize mornings, or get better at meetings. This was when I started to learn about productivity. It was love at first sight. Soon work colleagues were asking for help with their work and how to be more productive. I decided to start a newsletter on productivity that would curate content from around the internet to make it more actionable for my readers, which grew rapidly and organically. Fast forward to today, I help thousands of people across the globe through my research, power-packed newsletters, digital products, courses, templates, and tools to help end procrastination and productivity issues once and for all.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've helped 1000+ managers become more effective, manage their time better, and live more fulfilling lives.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being both the CEO and the employee. Balancing the dreams and strategy of the CEO and the day-to-day grind of the employee while keeping both happy. Takes time to learn.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Sell first, build second.
  2. Start with what you know, and learn along the way.
  3. Build a community, not an audience.
