Form and Colour - Delaney Rayne Creates

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in fine arts but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Delaney Rayne, creator of Delaney Rayne Creates, located in Victoria, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is creative and evolves with me, but at the heart of it all: I offer invitations for you to nurture deeper connections to yourself. My self-compassion card decks, book/journal "This Is Me," and Moon&Menstruation cycle-tracking calendars were all created with the intention of supporting the practices you do to be well.

Tell us about yourself

My business is born from moments where I have come home to myself and gotten still enough to see what settles within. What comes forth from there are creations that encourage habitual homecomings and trust in the innate value I have to offer- that each of us has to offer! This is what keeps me motivated to keep doing what I do because I know what a gift it is to me and others to express me fully. The common thread and my zones of genius that are found in all the work that I do are: are teaching, mindfulness, and practicing curiosity.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

All the connections I've made with other business owners and creatives along the way! This whole experience has really taught me how to build and nurture a community for myself and to be a part of spaces where I feel a deep sense of belonging.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Honestly? Social media, without a doubt. Because I am so intertwined with my business, it can be exhausting to show up as consistently as all the apps tell you you need to. And, when I'm brave enough to go against this grain and take a break from it, I beat myself up over it, so it often feels like a lose-lose for me. I'm still learning how to ask for support in this area and how to navigate it all in a more sustainable way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find expanders in your field who you look up to learn from.
  2. Ask for help.
  3. Know when you need to take a break and take one (guilt-free!).
