What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are business psychologists assessing internal and external candidates for management, professional and executive jobs and developing individual and team effectiveness. Serve diversified businesses from $10 million to $1 billion in sales. We also do career assessments to help people discover and achieve their career visions.
Tell us about yourself
Started as an independent or freelance school psychologist representing children and their parents throughout the greater Delaware Valley region. My mission was to optimize parent and school district effectiveness in kids' best interest with learning and adjustment issues. While promoting this practice and a men's counseling group, I was contacted by a family commercial printing business and helped them work through issues to improve their partnerships and enterprise effectiveness. This experience prompted me to get into business psychology with a small consulting group in 1980. Next founded Delta Consultants in 1988.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Growing my practice successfully and growing with our clients, many for ten plus years. My longest client partnership ran for 32 years.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Telling clients what they need to hear, not just what they want to hear. Often having to take an unpopular position with a CEO or owner, and sometimes an entire executive team.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have as clear a vision as possible and avoid side ventures.
- Stick with what you love and do best.
- Enjoy your personal life. Work and life are like a 2-wheel bike. Both wheels should run smoothly for maximum performance and personal enrichment.
