Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marcel Johnson, founder of Diall, Inc., located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Diall translates the science of mental health into short-form digital content that is engaging and makes it easy for Gen-Z to care for their mind.

Our core focus is on education, and we cover hundreds of relatable everyday topics and give users the tools they need so that they can have fun while improving their mental health. We believe that simplifying access to mental health education is the most effective way to eliminate stigma, improve wellbeing, and empower GenZ to receive the support they deserve.

Tell us about yourself

I am the youngest of four in a family of all boys and was the first to graduate college and work a white-collar job. Shortly after working in finance, I discovered my true passion for helping others using technology - specifically in the realm of equality and access to resources.

What motivates me is knowing that every day presents a new set of challenges that need to be solved, and figuring out how to solve them is exciting. It is also a reminder that work is never finished, and there is always something that I can be doing to make the world a better place.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think that becoming a business owner is half the battle. It takes courage, strength, resilience, and so much more. After taking the initial step, you are already on your way to greatness. My biggest accomplishment has been creating something that fills a need for an entire generation struggling with mental health. However, I am still continuing to set milestones for myself.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Maintaining balance and perspective. It is difficult to find someone as passionate as you are about your business, so sometimes it can feel like you are doing it alone or that you are misunderstood. It's important to give yourself time to reflect and remember why you made the decision to become a business owner.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Always be curious and never be afraid to learn. Do not run away from the things that you don't know. Lean into the opportunity to learn something new.
  2. Ask for help - Whether it be from strangers or your very own support network, people want to see you be successful.
  3. Put yourself out there - it always feels weird at first, but you get used to it. You have to share your ideas with the world - if not, no one knows they exist.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Make space and time to do the things you love.
