Tell us about yourself

I was working in a corporate world where life was monotonous, and I was going through my own mental traumas in life. In short, I was not happy with what I was doing and where I was; there was no motivation for anything, and I always wanted to do something of my own. I short-listed the things I am good at and love doing it. Out of a few, I choose candle-making as I love candles, and I just can’t live without it. 😊

But I always wanted it to be unique, so I started with body oil candles or lotion candles along with a lotion bar. Creating these unique pieces motivates me every day to look forward to a new beginning and love what I do. I followed my heart, I followed my passion, and here I am today as a small business entrepreneur who still has a long way to go.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was when the flambeau was awarded as the best business in Canada for 2021 by the Canadian Business Review Board (CBRB), which pushed me further to do what I am doing.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think life itself is hard, and so do things that have come along with life. Personally, I don’t feel anything hard as a business owner; it’s just about how much effort you are willing to put through. I always believe nothing is impossible if you have the will to do it. But of course, it’s nothing like a 9-5 job; being a business owner, you are most of the time working for a dream, especially when you are starting it all alone. 😊

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself and believe in your dreams.
  2. Don’t get demotivated if your friends or family don’t show up or support you. Remember, this life is 100% your responsibility and no one else. Once you taste success, people will look for you.
  3. Research as much as you can about the business you are thinking of starting. Take your time, and don’t rush. Don’t let people rush you,
don’t overspend, and have a budget.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Starting a business will not be easy; in fact, nothing is easy in life. But the most important thing is how passionate you are about doing what you want. And for anyone who is willing to start a small business of their own but cannot do it because of their mental health, please don’t give up. Take your time, but eventually, get up and fight for what you love. Don’t hide, just shine ✨ You can do it 😊
