Tell us about yourself

As a competitive and energetic person, I am always on the lookout for ways to engage and inspire others. It was during one of my group fitness classes that a woman dropped in and introduced me to the world of pickleball. She gave me a free one-on-one introduction lesson, and I fell in love with the sport immediately. After that, I began to search for places to play pickleball and where to buy equipment to continue my practice. This search led me to become a certified pickleball coach and a distributor of some of the top pickleball brands in the world, which eventually led to the birth of Dinkin' and Bangin'. My motivation comes from my faith and family. Being a father is not an easy task, but knowing that my children are watching every step I take drives me to be the best role model I can be.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, my greatest accomplishment has been the success of our latest pickleball tournament. We had our largest attendance to date and were able to raise funds to support families in our community. The feedback we received from the attendees was the icing on the cake. While we are not the only tournament provider in the area, to hear people speak so highly of our event was priceless. Knowing that we were able to provide an enjoyable experience for pickleball enthusiasts and make a positive impact in our community is truly rewarding.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a business owner, building a team to scale has proven to be one of the most challenging aspects of my journey. It's a common misconception that one person can handle everything alone. However, that approach only hinders your ability to scale and grow your business. In order to succeed, you need a team of individuals who can operate like a basketball team. Just like in basketball, you need someone who knows the playbook inside and out, a specialist who can hit goals and targets with precision, a versatile team player who can adapt to different roles, someone who can get their hands dirty in the trenches, and someone who can rebound from any setback.

Finding these individuals is no easy task, and it requires a great deal of trust. It's crucial to seek out team members who share your vision and values and who can bring their unique strengths and skills to the table. As a business owner, it's important to create a culture that fosters trust, open communication, and collaboration. When you have a team that works together seamlessly, you can achieve great things and take your business to new heights.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  2. Often, we underestimate the resources we have available to us. Take a closer look at what you have at your disposal, and utilize those resources to their fullest potential. As you continue to invest in yourself, your network will naturally grow. Take the time to create a list of your resources and network, and leverage both to give yourself credibility and validation in your industry.
  3. It's important to remember that building a successful business takes time, effort, and dedication. Be patient, and don't give up when faced with challenges or setbacks. Stay focused on your goals and keep pushing forward. With hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.
