Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Samuel Dixon, Owner of Dixon Fitness, located in Gatineau, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I run a business called Dixon Fitness. I am a fitness icon who promotes healthy lifestyle habits. I teach people how to reach their fitness and nutrition goals and adopt a beneficial mindset to become an overall striving individual. My customers are mainly professionals (men) who lack time and need to be mentored to reach their fitness goals and obtain balance in their fast pace life.

Tell us about yourself

When I was young, I did pretty much all the sports and was really into health and fitness. I was first inspired by some bodybuilding professionals, and that's when I started competing in bodybuilding and knew my life had taken a shift. I studied at the University of Ottawa and started personal training while I was competing, and I found a passion in helping others with their struggles to reach their fitness goals. The feedback I got from many clients, who got insane results not only physically but also drastically changed their whole identity, was incredible. To see and live that change is an unreal satisfying feeling that no money can replace. Knowing that I can push my expertise and have that much of a bigger impact motivates me every day to push myself and want more in all aspects of my life. That is why I create a Free Mentorship Challenge, available on my website.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say the number of clients that I have, all around the world, that literally changed their lives. To have made many amazing friendships on the way. To be able to travel and do what I love to do most!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being non-stop proactive because there are always changes and challenges that come up, and the attitude you take is key to getting you where you want to go. I also think delegation is also very crucial because you find yourself with way too much work and can get easily overwhelmed. So you need to focus on your strong points and delegate your weaknesses to be efficient.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do something you actually love.
  2. Plan a vision and divide it with small goals and a good structure.
  3. Gather a team of highly competent people who are reliable and believe in your business.
