What's your business, and who are your customers?
I’m a professional makeup artist with over six years of experience. We provide makeup and hair services for weddings or other events. Currently living in OKC, but I’m originally from Venezuela and lived in the Dominican Republic for almost four years, where I started to work in the makeup/wedding industry.
Tell us about yourself
I always loved weddings, then when I lived in the Dominican Republic, I learned that there’s a huge destination wedding industry there. I wanted to be part of that, and I started taking classes and specialized in Bridal Makeup. I was able to travel around the country and have been part of many weddings with people from all over the world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I’m proud of how big and stable my business is nowadays. It all started as a hobby, and now, after living in 3 different countries and starting from scratch one more time, my business is successful, and my clients recommend me to others.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Sometimes you can’t even take a few days off, you’re so excited to see your business take off, but at the same time, you forget that you also need to relax and rest.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be patient, it is not easy, but it will be worth it.
- Be consistent. Maybe it is not going as you expected, but you will succeed if you keep trying.
- Be your biggest fan. A lot of people will tell you that you’re crazy or that you cannot make a living on that but if you follow steps 1 and 2, you’ll prove them wrong.
