Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eloise Camire, co-founder of Double-echo, located in Montreal, QC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Double-echo is a design studio based in Montreal, Canada, specializing in eCommerce. We work with entrepreneurs, solopreneurs, and small businesses who want to start selling online or optimize their online store, sell more, and be more efficient. We mostly work with the Shopify eCommerce Platform.

Tell us about yourself

I started as a web designer in a big agency working with clients like L'Oreal. I then co-founded Double-echo in 2007. I was always interested in entrepreneurship. What drives me the most is talking with entrepreneurs about their passion, what they want to accomplish, and being a part of their success online, i.e., having their own boutique, controlling every aspect of it, and getting the margins they deserve with their own platform. Some of our clients wouldn't have made it in the past years without their own online stores. I can see all the power shift in their favor instead of depending on retail location or wholesale.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Double-echo started 15 years ago. I feel in the digital world, it's like 100 years. And some of our first clients are still with us today, and I'm really proud of it. I also started another business in a completely different domain and built a cosmetic brand from scratch, selling online with a Shopify Store. It's now been fully running for the past ten years, and it could be my full-time job if I wanted. It's my way of testing everything for myself first. I am then fully experienced and can apply what I learn to my client's project. When you are also an entrepreneur with great success online, it's easier to tell others, " Hey, look what works best for us here. These new features can help you do this, etc." You are talking from experience, and you really know what it takes to run an online store day to day.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

In eCommerce, I think it's the constant technology changes. You need to keep up with everything. It's moving fast.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I would say start small and follow your intuition. You are the best to know what works best for you. I firmly believe you should do everything yourself before hiring someone to do it. You will then really see what value is being added and how it can contribute to your success. You will instantly see if someone doesn't know what they are talking about. When you run a business, you need to identify these quickly.
