Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Amy Wood, founder of Amy Wood, Psy.D., LLC, located in Portland, ME, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a psychologist specializing in helping attorneys to be happier and more productive through executive coaching, consulting, and continuing education programming.

Tell us about yourself

I've been in private practice for 22 years, and I organically started attracting stressed-out attorneys about eight years ago. That prompted me to research attorney stress and design a system tailored to attorneys (Lawyer Like an Athlete) to reduce the unique pressures they experience.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments: an invitation from Maine Public Radio to do a year-long series on resilience and a contract with the American Bar Association to write the book Lawyer Like an Athlete, to be published in 2024.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is trust that the money will come if you do what you love. It gets easier and easier as you start to see evidence that money truly does manifest from doing work that resonates.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If it feels right, do it.
  2. Don't listen to naysayers.
  3. Get comfortable with getting out there and making things happen.
