What's your business, and who are your customers?
I work with a lot of organizations in two areas. I work with companies who are looking to limit distractions and focus on their short and long-term goals. I also work with my business partner, Dr. Brad Klontz, on the psychology of financial planning, helping advisors have deeper relationships with clients.
Tell us about yourself
I work at the intersection of cognitive and financial psychology, focusing on how people engage and learn as well as how they can make better relationships with money.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am always proud when those who enrolled in our programs say they had a better relationship with clients, helping them reach their goals or when an organization says their employees are more focused and productive/creative in their work.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
It is great being a business owner. It is always a challenge knowing when to expand and add employees and when to wait. We have had some great initial success, and it is a "good overwhelming," so when do you add employees, and when do you wait. Sometimes a tough decision, but a good problem to have!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Have an idea of what the market wants.
- Be the biggest expert in that area that the market wants.
- Be conscientious in your work and business dealings.
