Achieve Optimal Health Through Chiropractic - Dr. Emily Mayo

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Emily Mayo, DC, owner of Mayo Chiropractic: A Center for Life, located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Mayo Chiropractic serves everyone from newborns to centurions. We have a very gentle approach to chiropractic that focuses more on finesse during the adjustments than force. We have a specialty in pediatric/prenatal work, sports chiropractic (working with athletes), helping people with TMJ issues, correcting hiatal hernias, and, of course, general chiropractic, which is the ever-important, balancing of the nervous system to optimize your full body's functioning.

Tell us about yourself

I always knew I wanted to be a doctor, but the philosophy of chiropractic is what really got me. Chiropractic care is focused on healing from the inside out using the body's innate ability to help facilitate the process. I love that I get to help people be the best versions of themselves each and every day, which is what continually motivates me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I think my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is honestly just running a successful business. I put my heart and soul into what I do, and I love it. Learning the actual business part just came along the way. For me, it's really about serving people.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

All of the back-end pieces to running a business that are not the particularly exciting parts directly related to the business but are necessary (like all of the bookkeeping, analytics, etc.)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You need to love what you do, or you're not going to want to put the energy into it that it needs.
  2. Just get started; you'll learn a lot of what you need to know along the way.
  3. Don't be afraid to ask for help people love to talk about their experiences and are always willing to lend some perspective.
