What's your business, and who are your customers?

Draw the Line Jewelry is a female-founded and powered company. We are an independent brand that designs and produces minimalist silver + gold jewelry to be worn all day, every day. We cater to discerning customers that want to add handcrafted, meaningful, and sophisticated items to their distinct collection of jewelry and love high-quality, long-lasting, and well-considered designs.

Tell us about yourself

I fell in love with the process of making jewelry by hand over thirty years ago, and I still love it! The business piece of it came by default, but I do happen to come from a long line of entrepreneurs, so it was a very natural fit. My biggest motivation is the plethora of ideas and designs I have not yet brought into the world.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I celebrate twenty years in business this year! That's a pretty big deal for a small business like mine.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

My biggest struggle is time management. There are so many priorities when you run a small business it's hard to tend to them all.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have a plan. Without one, you can stumble around blindly accepting every opportunity offered to you, but that may not be aligned with your vision or goals. Stick to it and revisit it often.
  2. Remember that slow and steady wins the race. Just keep doing what you do every day, and you will build momentum for your brand, service, and/or product. Getting organized will help. Time block tasks, use one calendar, take bite-sized chunks out of your to-do list every day and delegate what you don't like to do!
  3. Running a business is about building relationships. Don't be shy to lean on your inner circles of supportive people to start. Ask for help. Build such an impeccable reputation that your customers become your biggest fans, and their referrals will just keep bringing people and business to you.
