Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Earl Granville, an independent public speaker based in Scranton, PA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

As a public speaker, I discuss healthy ways to battle adversity, the importance of having a purpose in your life, and never carrying the weight by yourself, from my own life experiences of losing my leg in Afghanistan and losing my twin brother, Army SSG Joe Granville, who took his own life while on active duty.

Tell us about yourself

I was asked to speak to a room full of correction officers one morning, followed by inmates in the evening. I never considered myself a “speaker,” but I came in discussing my story, followed by my ideas and the tools I used to overcome the adversity I faced throughout my last years in the military. The feedback I received was very positive, so with a little training, I decided to branch out to all types of different audiences and cultures. I feel what I bring to the table, no matter who, anybody can relate to.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I feel the connection I have with people has been a great accomplishment. Hearing people’s own stories after I share mine is an honor.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Networking has been a challenge, but I try to use social media in my favor to branch out to all types of unique audiences.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

See what services you can provide for your community, connect with your customers, and by God, have a great time doing it. I see the connection I build with my customers never feels like “work”; I look at it as an act of service.
