Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Amy Smith, Co-Owner of EarthnAirCreations, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We create handmade, energy-infused items to enhance mindful daily rituals. We gather fallen timber surrounding our New England shop (never cut from standing trees) to "rebirth" into our wood-crafted products. We create energy-infused jewelry by using crystals for their particular qualities that are needed at a given moment. All of our items are meant to offer a connection to nature, mindful living and community, inspiration, and self-empowerment. Whether it's to create serene spaces in your home, uplevel or create daily rituals or routines, or wear or carry items to help you throughout the day, our mission is to help bring a sense of presence and connection. Our customers are mostly women, 18+ (it's truly a mix of ages), and located mostly in the US, Canada, UK, and Europe.

Tell us about yourself

My business partner, Ozana, and I first formed em-body-ment, where we conducted workshops and client coaching on holistic awareness and change, from the physical, emotional, mental, and energetical planes and tools to support the journey. EarthnAirCreations was born from that space, coupled with the inspiration of our beautiful forest surroundings.

We saw a need from our personal experiences to infuse this energy of nature, connection, mindfulness, and presence into our everyday lives and spaces. We both have woodworking in our backgrounds, so we started playing!

We love doing what we do, so that's motivation in itself! Layered in that is a connection to nature, helping people feel that connection and build a community around it, helping people self-empower and realize how awesome they really are.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having people send us messages thanking us for the product they received and telling us how it's helped them. We love it when people say, "I can feel the energy," and it helps them ground, feel calm, and feel connected to something else.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Wearing a lot of hats outside of creating and finding talented support that is a good fit. The silver lining to that is we have learned so much! For example, I never would have thought "content creator" would be in my lexicon, but here we are! :)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have clarity of what you want to be and what you want to accomplish. Don't worry about the "hows" at first. When you know what you want and what you want to be, the "hows" have a way of revealing themselves!
  2. Be patient and consistent, even if it doesn't feel like things are "moving."
  3. Have fun, and check in to see if what you're doing is joyful to you! If not, see what's underneath and allow it to shine a light on something that most likely is your resistance and self-sabotage.
