Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bianca Davis, Founder, and CEO of East Meets West Training, located in Houston, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an ERYT200 Private Yoga Instructor, Personal Trainer, and Holistic Fitness and Wellness Coach. I teach vinyasa, Hatha, and yin, as well as specialize in yoga for pain relief. I also create online fitness and wellness programs that focus on healthy, sustainable habits that transform my client's body, mind, and spirit. Additionally, I offer corporate yoga and wellness talks on how to reduce stress with mindfulness. I work with busy entrepreneurs, executives, and creatives who have historically prioritized their work before their health and want to bring about more balance in their lives. I absolutely love working with women on embodiment and growth journeys and those who suffer from chronic pain to find gentle but effective solutions.

Tell us about yourself

I had a yoga miracle myself in 2014 that inspired me to share this practice with others. I healed my narcolepsy during my teacher training and knew I was meant to carry the message of yoga to a broad audience. I have overcome a lot of resistance in sharing publicly about my journey because I am also a survivor of narcissistic abuse and had lost a great deal of my confidence in that trauma. It was actually losing my day job during COVID that inspired me to finally take the plunge into full-time entrepreneurship, and I haven't regretted a thing. I am able to reach more people through coaching and teaching virtually, and I am able to provide a higher level of support than I was when I was working only part-time in person. I love waking up knowing that I get to share the things I love, and it's that passion that fuels me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Honestly, it's a huge accomplishment for me when one of my clients tells me that they are no longer in pain. I love helping people feel better in their bodies, and I love that this is what I get to do.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Definitely, one of the hardest things for me as a solopreneur is not having co-workers or people to bounce ideas off. I'm lucky I have a few friends also on this crazy entrepreneur journey that I can talk to about challenges that I may be facing. That and creating strong work and home life boundaries. Even though I help people to do that, I understand how difficult it is when it feels like your work is never done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Think about creating a business that allows you to scale when you're ready.
  2. Talk to friends and family to do some market research to see if your product or service has legs.
  3. Trust yourself, accept that the journey will be messy but worth it, and just do it!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

My private yoga lessons are both in-person in Houston and virtual through zoom, and it's a wonderful way to get started or advance your yoga practice when you have someone checking in on just you. My one-on-one coaching is all done virtually. For women looking for a drop-in option, I host donation-based yoga and women's circles every Sunday at seven central, where we ground and connect to ourselves first through yoga, then connect to each other in a circle, then we connect to our highest vision for ourselves before reflecting on our week and setting goals and intentions for the week to come.
