Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in media production but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jared Salois, Creative Director and Co-Founder of Ecopreneur Media, located in Braintree, MA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Ecopreneur is an environmental media platform that utilizes the power of mobilization to transform social impact into revenue. We do this by increasing awareness for brands and non-profits by aligning them with activist advocates through incentivized activism.

Our approach involves targeting volunteer projects, allowing sponsorship opportunities, and authentic storytelling which speaks true to the mission - to promote compassion, communication, and community towards a sustainable tomorrow.

Tell us about yourself

I first started Ecopreneur with my co-founder as it was a shared dream. I studied Graphic Design in college but always felt the entrepreneurial fire inside. I was far more interested in developing marketing strategies, business development, and generally connecting with people who aspired for something better. I look to make an inspiring and grand social impact by working on a company that gives back to communities. I aim to build and maintain a legacy that is known for positively affecting how society views volunteerism and taking one small action at a time to fix the climate crisis.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is building a community of mentors and like-minded people and working with others to reach a common goal. I love seeing those I work with have their own business ventures and how we inspire each other as well as hold each other accountable.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is the willingness to continue on your journey. It is a long, lonely road, sometimes with times of lack of support, resources, and pure motivation. To get through such times, I always remember my "why," my most important reason for continuing on my journey.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be resourceful. There are many useful online tools, communities, and connections at your disposal - you just have to be willing to find them.
  2. Be confident in your own vision when things are tough. In the beginning, if you think you are failing, you are succeeding. If there is one thing I believe that halts progress the most is the unwillingness to at least try and fail rather than never trying at all.
  3. Rely on those who wish to see you succeed. Understanding who supports you from the very beginning of your journey and filtering out those who do not want to see you succeed makes a world of difference.
