What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hi! I'm Sylvanus, the owner of Edishouse Photography, located in Anchorage, AK. My business is headshot photography, senior portrait, and beauty pageant. My customers are primarily actors, business professionals, pageant contestants, and entrepreneurs. I specialize in creating high-quality portraits that help my clients to stand out and showcase their best selves. I work with each client to understand their unique needs and tailor my services to meet those needs. My goal is to create a portrait that not only looks great but also helps my clients to succeed in their careers.

Tell us about yourself

Well, I first got into photography while studying software engineering during my senior year of college. I had always had a passion for capturing moments and telling stories through images, but it wasn't until my senior year that I decided to pursue it more seriously. I started to practice and hone my skills. After graduation, I decided to move to Anchorage, Alaska, to expand my horizons and pursue photography full-time. I've been practicing photography for two years now. I find it extremely rewarding to be able to help people look their best, whether it's for a job application, a business card, or a portfolio. I love seeing my client's reactions when they see the edited image for the first time. It's a great feeling to know that I've helped them to look and feel their best.

What motivates me every day is the opportunity to create something beautiful and to make a difference in people's lives. I also love the creative process and the challenge of capturing unique and meaningful moments. Additionally, being a Nigerian and now living in America, I find it fascinating to blend cultural diversity in my photography and showcase it in my works.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment is stepping out of my comfort zone.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is balancing the financial aspects of the business with the creative aspects. As a business owner, you have to constantly think about how to increase revenue and make the business profitable, but at the same time, you also want to focus on creating beautiful and meaningful images. Finding the right balance and not losing sight of the artistic side of photography in the process can be difficult.
