What's your business, and who are your customers?

EMPHASIBS provides consulting services to insurance companies that are at the point of buying insurance policy administration systems (PAS) to run their business. This can start very early to determine whether the company can continue to use its homegrown or existing system or look for a new vendor-developed solution. The business goes beyond PAS selection. We provide services to find solutions to the myriad of problems facing the insurance business operations like:

  • Legacy systems modernization.
  • Developing exit strategies for insurers when administering closed blocks of business as they turn into ‘run -off’ businesses.
  • Researching emerging technologies such as RPA, AI, IA, ML, ECM and their impact on insurance carriers’ automation journey.
  • Insurance Cloud Transformation. From tactical to strategic investment.

Our customers are life and Property & Casualty insurance companies, both large and small, who may not be happy with their existing PAS.

Tell us about yourself

After college, I worked for Milliman & Robertson INC., where I developed various insurance products for insurance companies. I then joined PAS vendor INFORMATICS GENERAL, which developed LIFE -COMM. I have subsequently worked for PAS vendors that developed COMPASS, ALIP, INGENIUM, CYBERLIFE, and AMARTA. These PAS experiences helped plant the seed to one day provide business solutions to insurance companies. Being my own boss and having the freedom and passion to start something from scratch are the motivating factors that get me out of bed every day. Knowing that what I do is helping some companies out there accomplish their goals.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The entire journey from the conceptualization stage of the business, through several months of planning, to launching the brand, EMPHASIBS.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As a founder, your emotions are all over, up and down. You must deal with that on your own.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Have enough money set aside for eventualities!
  2. Be passionate about what you do. There will be plenty of ups and downs. When you are down, know that you will be back up again if you persist.
  3. Seek help from qualified people. ‘It must be a long night indeed that never finds the day.’
