What's your business, and who are your customers?
Ensō Superfoods' mission is to make it easier for everyone to live a healthy life. To achieve our mission, we create natural supplements for the vast majority of the US population that is not getting enough fruits and vegetables daily. Our superfood powders are made in nature, not in a lab – they're from real organic food scientifically proved to improve digestion, immunity, and energy and fill in the gaps that most diets lack.
Tell us about yourself
Growing up in Brazil, I always had a strong connection with both nature and nutrition. Access to fresh food was so easy that I never realized how much I took it for granted. When I moved to New York City years later, I had difficulty finding the time to eat healthy consistently. I was more and more feeling weaker and with less energy. There had to be an easier way to get the daily nutrients I needed and incorporate them into my routine. I then experimented with adding superfoods to my daily smoothie and felt the difference. This was when everything clicked for me, and I decided to create Ensō Superfoods to make eating healthy as easy as possible for everyone!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment was to launch Ensō Superfoods. Taking a new business from 0 to 1 is hard but extremely exciting! It's awesome to be printing your personal values into the business and shaping it to make a real difference and the most impact on other peoples' lives.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
More than ever, what happens tomorrow is a huge question mark. We live in an era of extreme uncertainty, and that requires fluidity. Even our most structured plans have to be lean enough to change if we have to. As business owners, we have to live in a constant state of open-mindedness. Making fast – yet flexible – decisions with what's in front of us and moving forward no matter what is extremely challenging but paramount for success.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I'm one of those 'old-fashioned' entrepreneurs who believe that everything derives from passion. Figuring out what kind of passion drives you is the starting point. Doing it for the right reasons is key. Because it will get tough, and passion is what fuels the everyday entrepreneurial grind. It can't be fake. That said, passion is not enough – not even close! It's easy to get stuck looking for passion. At the end of the day, successful execution is what makes successful companies. So the earlier you start executing, the earlier you'll learn about what drives you and what you want to do. Action creates passion. Fall in love with your customers. You can only understand what they want if you become obsessed with them. If you listen, they will tell you what they want, and they will be asking you to sell them your products, not the other way around.
