Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in freelancing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ericka Mae Valenciano, Founder of Eri Content Studio, located in Antipolo City, Rizal, Philippines.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Eri Content Studio was born out of my passion for writing and my desire to inspire the world. In line with my extensive 7+ background in the marketing field, my clients are mostly digital marketing business owners in need of content and copywriting services to reach their set objectives.

Tell us about yourself

I started exploring the freelance industry last 2020 -- taking a forced break from the nuzzling marketing world because of the pandemic. Wanting to have a release from the uncertainties during that time, I started With Love by Eri on Instagram as an anonymous outlet for my musings. This eventually led me to score writing projects and opened the idea of the business. Serendipity at its finest!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Though not much yet, my biggest accomplishment so far is earning twice compared to my 9-5 back in 2020 and being able to do something I love to do -- which is to write. I've enrolled in a couple of courses and planning to revamp the whole studio to another level this 2023.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing is keeping the business momentum from plateauing or, worse, declining. At the same time, word vomit and writing blocks are also a few challenges I really hate but always encounter.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Well if there are 3 tips I wish I had known when I started:

  1. The early bird catches the worm -- but the best time to start is always today, even if it feels too late.
  2. It's okay to say no to some projects and never compromise your beliefs and values.
  3. There's always someone better than you -- don't compare someone's day 365 with your day 1.
