What's your business, and who are your customers?

We make healthy hard candies using pure essential oils and other plant botanicals. They are organic, non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan and may help to support the body. There are no artificial colors, flavors, or sugars. We sell to individuals who are looking to improve their health through an easy, convenient, and portable way.

Tell us about yourself

I practice yoga and meditate daily. It was after a few months of dedicated meditation sessions that some divine inspiration occurred while I was on a long-distance bicycle ride. I had been visualizing an answer to a question I had in wanting to help a friend that was going through chemotherapy. We help thousands of people, and for each purchase, we donate to individuals going through cancer. This is why we are "Candy With A Purpose."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We decided to manufacture our candies at the beginning of a pandemic. While it took about ten months to build our space fully. I am very grateful to have a place that will support our growth into retail.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Finding the balance between growing a business that is unique and keeping self-care intact. The family/work/life balance for a lot of people can be challenging, but when it's your own business, one tends to work longer hours, and time seems to slip away. We are family-centered, and I am grateful that I truly have the support of my children and husband/business partner every day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you're in a position to purchase equipment to help grow your business, do your research on the company. Talk to their customers and ask questions to ensure that what you're buying is exactly what you need.
  2. Scaling for growth related to packaging. The business will evolve, and re-prints will be needed (especially if it's a consumer packaged goods product). Ensure there is time spent reviewing and editing for any errors. Ask a friend to look it over with fresh eyes.
  3. Get a board of advisors that can help you with some areas you may not be familiar with or have the expertise. They can also act as potential mentors.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

This business is a mission for us in helping people. Everything we do, we lead with our hearts while spreading love and kindness to all we encounter. We are excited this year to be expanding into national retailers and distributors throughout the country.
