Celebrate the Learning and Education - Eval Gal

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and education but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Ginger Baker Sanhueza, Founder of Eval Gal, located in St. Augustine, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an education consultant that specializes in homeschool advisement, planning, evaluations, and tutoring. We aim to support parents and students on their educational journey, whether that be in public/private school or at-home education.

Tell us about yourself

I like to call myself an edupreneur--someone that is a teacher and an entrepreneur. As a teacher with 17+ years of experience, I have learned that everyone learns differently, and what works for some may not work for others. I started Eval Gal by doing homeschool evaluations in Florida, which is a state requirement. From there, we have grown our services to include Special Education, certified teachers as virtual tutors, and educational consultations. I am a people person, and I love helping others find solutions to their problems and supporting them in their decisions to educate their children in whatever way they feel is best. I am a big fan of celebrating successes and working hard on the back end to make my clients feel stress-free.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I am a small business owner, but I am most proud of going after a vision I had and executing it in a way that has grown into a successful business. I am proud of overcoming the fear of getting started and taking a leap of faith despite not knowing if it would work or not.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is getting out of your own way. You are your only competition. Overcoming negative mindsets and doubts can be a daily obstacle, but you have to push through that.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

For those thinking about getting started, I would suggest brainstorming. Find your niche and what you are great at, and create a way to make money doing it. Have grace with yourself and those around you. Be patient--growth doesn't happen instantly. And lastly, have fun! Remember, this is what YOU want to do, so have fun with it.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We learn and grow through failures, so be flexible and willing to change if something isn't working. Building a business takes not only takes financial investment but also takes up mental real estate. Be sure to keep a growth mindset and remember your WHY. This will help motivate you and drive you to endure obstacles as you perfect your processes.
