Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Fanny Hanono, president of GFX Corp, located in Miami, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

GFX is a world leader in the design and manufacture of automatic transmission kits and components. GFX occupies over 100,000 square feet of space in multiple buildings in three countries. GFX also operates manufacturing, office, warehouse, and distribution facilities in the Netherlands, with a manufacturing facility in China.

Tell us about yourself

GFX has been a part of my life since before I can remember. My father founded the company in 1961, and from a young age, I was intrigued by the company. As I grew up, I became more and more involved in the business, learning everything I could about the industry and honing my skills as a leader.

Over the years, I worked to grow GFX and expand the business. It wasn't always easy, but with a lot of hard work and determination, we were able to overcome obstacles in our way. Eventually, I took over the business from my father, and I'm proud to say that I've been at the helm for almost 40 years now.

What motivates me each day is the knowledge that we're creating great products at GFX. Our team is made up of talented individuals in the industry, and we're pushing the boundaries of what's possible, coming up with innovative solutions to complex problems, and delivering quality products. As a mother, I am also motivated to set a good example for my children and for my company.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the fact that I'm one of the few women in this industry who has been able to achieve this level of success. It hasn't always been easy, and I've faced my fair share of challenges along the way. But every time I'm faced with a hurdle, I'm reminded of why I started down this path in the first place.

My greatest accomplishment isn't the size of the company or the number of employees we have. It's the fact that I've been able to break down barriers and prove that women can be just as successful as men in this field. Every day, I wake up feeling grateful for the opportunity to do something that I love and to help pave the way for the next generation of women in business.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is constantly keeping up with the changing economic landscape and the ever-evolving government regulations. But on top of that, also being a mother and a business owner. You have the responsibility of raising a family and keeping things running smoothly in your business. It's a tough balancing act, and there is always work to be done.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Top 3 tips for anyone looking to grow a business today:

  1. Try and find a niche business or try to find a niche within that business that other people don't have.
  2. Remember that people who work for you have their own issues all the time. And it's always better to be at peace with you and your staff than it is to be right about everything.
  3. Listen when people talk to you. Yes, you make the final decision, but you have to listen to other people when they speak to you.
