Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Charles Mayfield, CEO of Farrow Skincare, located in Athens, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Farrow Skincare is an all-natural skincare company. Our ingredients are minimal. And our chemical-free formulations are based on traditional wisdom and work with nature (not against it) to support healthy, radiant skin. Our primary customers are women 30-55 that are seeking non-toxic and preservative-free skincare products.

Tell us about yourself

I am a regenerative farmer and ancestral health enthusiast with 15 years of experience in the human health and nutrition market. I have seen a tremendous impact on consumers adopting a "real food" diet and discovered the immense benefits of SmartLard in 2019. Took my healthy diet mindset and focused it on skincare. Farrow is truly healing and helping people address a wide variety of skin conditions, from dry skin and itchiness to eczema and psoriasis.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Farrow has just completed its first year in business. The biggest accomplishment has to be getting the product launched following a Kickstarter failure.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For Farrow, it has been getting everything done. We have no employees--yet. Have managed to hire several experts to help with some of the development. All manufacturing and fulfillment are done by the owner (at this point). Time management has been a huge challenge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Sleep and Hydration are of paramount importance. Make sure these are attended to.
  2. You have a marketing problem--always. There are many aspects of the business to worry about. But marketing and getting the product in the hands of the consumer is #1, always!
  3. You had better love what you do. What you love about it will evolve and change as the business goes through stages. It's OK to love different aspects of the business's evolution and growth...but you had better make sure you love it along the way.
