Every Women’s Trusted Friend - Fibra

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Parnian Majd, Founder of Fibra Inc., located in Vaughan, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Eighty percent of those trying for pregnancy fail every month. This is personal for everyone. It could be you or your daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, or aunt. But it's often private, so awareness is low, and a lot of women/couples suffer in silence. But here's what we do know: Current solutions are insufficient. For half a billion women having an irregular menstrual cycle, it's harder to find the few fertile days during the month, and this negatively impacts their pregnancy chances. It is also a very rough mental and physical journey. Anxiety, lower self-esteem, loneliness, and feelings of failure are a few of the feelings that women experience on a daily basis when they are going through the fertility journey. We are creating a wearable device paired with an app to help women get pregnant faster, easier, and in the most natural manner. We exist because we believe that the fertility journey does not have to be lonely, scary, or complicated.

Tell us about yourself

Watching my best friend suffer through her fertility journey made me combine my technical background in biomedical engineering with my personal motivation to come up with a product to help women who are going through the same journey. She always focused on her career and postponed the pregnancy phase of her life, and this negatively impacted her chance. To me, it is not fair that women have to choose between their careers and having a baby, and what motivates me each day is that we are providing a product that will enable them to focus on their careers knowing that there is a product for them which will maximize their chances when they want to have a baby.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I grew the company size to 10 in 8 months without raising additional capital and while sustaining the cash.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is that you need to know everything. From software development to hardware development to project management to marketing to sales to accounting to legal to business development to fundraising to team building and to HR.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start by joining an incubator/accelerator. By doing so, you are proving to yourself and everybody else that you are serious about it.
  2. Always be in constant contact with your customers and always incorporate their opinion and insights in every aspect of the service you are offering.
  3. Maximize the resources and connections that the incubators/accelerators offer to you.
  4. Never be afraid to reach out to people; you'll be surprised how many people want to help you succeed.
