What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are Manhattan's first and only candle shop. We offer the unique experience of making your own candle, wax melts, room sprays, and diffusers. We have a wide range of fragrances, from masculine, feminine, to earthy, fruity, floral, and woodsy. We have something for everyone.
Tell us about yourself
We are a retired military family, and we have always wanted to open a business and work together. When we came across this concept, we knew it was something unique and fun to offer to Manhattan. We decided to take the opportunity and open our shop in June of 2021. Working together has been such a blessing. We each have our own strengths, and together we can accomplish anything. We have really enjoyed helping people create their own custom candles and create memories.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Our biggest accomplishment has been to hit our one-year anniversary of being open. You hear so much about business closing their doors right after opening, and we have seen several stores open and close since we opened our doors. To make it to a year and continue to grow is a huge accomplishment for us.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
You have to have patience. Growing a business takes time. There are going to be good times and bad, but if you have the patience to work through the bad times, then you can grow through the good times. Eventually, your current bad times will be your former good times.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be patient - growth doesn't happen overnight.
- Commit to a full year - give your business time to grow.
- Be flexible - if something doesn't seem to be working, don't be afraid to change it.
