Make Your Creative Dreams Come True - Franklin Taggart

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Franklin Taggart, founder of Franklin Taggart Coaching, located in Loveland, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

People come to me when they're ready to take their creative dreams off the back burner and make them finally come true. Together, we figure out each step of their journey and make it happen.

Tell us about yourself

I've owned businesses since 1986. In addition to a music career and thirty different day jobs, I've always had entrepreneurial impulses that I couldn't resist. Though it hasn't always been the case, I love marketing and selling now that I've discovered that I can do them in ways that fit my personality and preferences rather than using models that worked for other people. Another thing people seek me out for is off-the-wall ideas for their marketing that have a record of working very well.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is that I'm still in business after being interrupted by the death of a child, serious illness, bankruptcy, and multiple business failures. I'm lucky to still do something I love for people I care about. Life is good!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

In the early stages of business, and sometimes even in the later stages, there are times of instability and financial insecurity that make you wonder if you're making the right decisions. I've been fortunate to surround myself with highly intelligent people I can trust to be honest with me and help steer me back into better places. For me, periods of self-doubt happen at least once a month, but I've realized they are a part of a larger cycle, and they no longer worry me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be true to your own values and desires. Other people may mean well, but the vision for your business needs to come from you.
  2. Find highly qualified mentors who will personally help you as you start and grow your business. You don't need many, but you do need some.
  3. Resist the temptation to try to be visible everywhere, all the time. This is a waste of your resources. Find your people and give them opportunities to gather in your world.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Remember that even the best batters in baseball strike out more than two-thirds of the time. Commit yourself to take smart risks, don't give up too soon or too easily, and surround yourself with people who are smarter than you while serving those who need what you have. Good luck!
