Newbody Training System - Frederick Neal
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Frederick Neal, owner of Newbody Training System LLC., located in West Orange, NJ, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
As a wellness professional and owner of Newbody Training System, my business is helping people move beyond habits that stagnate growth and personal development and create a platform of forwarding mobility. Personal growth is like water; it must flow in order to stay viable and complete. This viability is very important to your life energy. If it does not flow, your body becomes lackluster, and your ability to strive lessens. This can happen to anyone - adults and even children. Change works better in motion - in stagnation, change is almost impossible.
Tell us about yourself
I began my journey at 12 years of age in Martial Arts. At this point, I was training, and several years later, I began studying art. I found that the philosophy of movement and medicine was very curious to me. After twenty years of study and training, I found that physical well-being was closely related to four imperatives - vision, mind, breath, and intent. This leads me to a greater study of anatomy, exercise science, functional movement, and more. After 40 years of teaching, training, and study, I have gained the skill necessary to teach with a clear understanding of dynamic movement and all the other supportive modalities - rest, nutrition, and personal development. Guiding others to discover their path so that they can begin their journey is very fulfilling to me. As an ACE Certified Wellness Professional and Health Specialist, I am ready and qualified to do my part in helping to make a change in our world.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I believe that my biggest accomplishment is in what I have done over the years, doing what I do, and being who I have to be every day to stay on the path. The years of study and training - are very difficult. Maintaining a brick-and-mortar location - is very difficult. But I think when all is said and done, the biggest accomplishment has to be when a client or student looks at me and says, "I finally get it."
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Small business ownership comes with a big caveat. Unlike what most people think- that you make your hours, you work when you want, you have more money than everybody that they know, and you can give more because you own a business - wrong! You are not a business owner; the business owns you until it can stand on its own two feet, so to speak. So like a marriage with children, it's your time, your money, your pain, your heartache before joy ever comes your way. It is about dedication and intent. Motivation will soon fade, and the journey is long.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Never spend your own money.
- Always get twice what you think you need.
- Always use a contract no matter what the situation may be.
- Never spend your own money.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
For those of us who are in the - so-called business of wellness, it is not a business when it comes to the client or student. It is a personal connection about living a healthy and balanced life. It is about being able to say when we have finished our journey that it was a journey well done. We must keep things in the right perspective and not muddy the waters of life endeavors with other people's misunderstanding of the field of study we are in. Be smart, stay strong, and rest when you must, but do not quit.
