What's your business, and who are your customers?

Genesis Ketamine Centers specializes in consciousness medicine. Our main service is to administer intravenous ketamine infusions in a safe and comfortable setting to provide a profound psychedelic experience.

Psychedelic medicine is one technique that expands and enhances consciousness, and we advocate adopting regular practices such as meditation, breath work, and mindfulness that have a similar impact on the brain. Our practice focuses on utilizing the power of the mind to make physical changes in the body and improvements in health.

Our patients are individuals suffering from psychological disorders such as depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, addiction, and chronic pain.

Tell us about yourself

I am a medical doctor and entrepreneur. My motivation to become a physician was inspired to study the relationship between the mind and various mental states and the brain. I was involved in neuroscience research during medical school, and when pursuing my education, I was inspired to start my career initially as an anesthesiologist. Working in this field provided in-depth knowledge and experience with administering various medications to affect consciousness. This includes the use of ketamine.

I further pursued sub-specialty training in the field of pain medicine. Shortly after my fellowship, I started a multidisciplinary practice called Philadelphia Smart Pain & Wellness that provides diagnostic care, physical therapy, and pain management techniques to help individuals living with chronic pain or suffering from pain related to injuries.

In 2021, I started Genesis Ketamine Centers to provide an alternative therapy to treat nervous system conditions such as many psychiatric and pain disorders. We have developed safe protocols to administer ketamine in the office setting and have seen remarkable outcomes. About 70% of our patients who treat for mood disorders have noted significantly improved symptoms after their care. Helping patients where more traditional therapies fail because we are harnessing the power of consciousness is what motivates me to make Genesis Ketamine Centers the best practice it can be.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Saving lives. We regularly provide care to patients who are suicidal and hopeless despite numerous conventional treatments. On many occasions, after several treatment sessions, I have seen a remarkable transformation in these patients as we help alleviate the oppressive burden of depression. I am convinced that some of these patients would have succumbed to their intrusive thoughts that life is not worth living if it were not for our care.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Reaching patients and therapists who could benefit or have their patients benefit from ketamine therapy but hold a closed-minded belief that psychedelics are dangerous or illegal. There is a stigma that considers ketamine as an illicit narcotic with no medical benefits. This is so far from the truth, and we are working hard to break through this misconception to reach as many people as we can with the hopes of transforming lives.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Focus on the details. These details are not fun, but ironing out the processes of the continuum of the customer experience and working on refining them is critical.
  2. Find a niche. Avoid the same service that your competitors are providing. Do not be afraid to enter into a specialization that causes others fear or disdain.
  3. Treat your employees well. Make them feel that they are part of a mission and that their motivation in their job is not a paycheck that will always be inadequate but that they are helping people or that they are working for something that provides meaning and satisfaction.
