Reach Your Happy Weight - Georgia Haas Nutrition

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Georgia Haas, Founder of Georgia Haas Nutrition LLC., located in St. Louis, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Georgia Haas Nutrition (GHN) is a completely virtual nutrition private practice dedicated to helping women reach their happiest and healthiest weight, feel confident in their own skin, and live full lives free from food rules and restrictions.

Tell us about yourself

I struggled with my weight and yo-yo dieting while in high school. I was so controlled by the scale and my food rules. The harder I tried to lose weight, the more weight I would gain. Through my educational career and my own personal experience, I was able to overcome this. I found a way to live a full life, staying at my happiest weight, enjoying all the foods I love, and ditching dieting for good. I wanted to share this with others who were dealing with similar struggles.

After working as a clinical dietitian, I felt something was missing from this career I'd worked so hard to reach. I wanted to forge deeper connections with the people I was helping. I wanted to really know them and see them progress over time. I knew that so many people needed dietitians like this and felt I could fill that need.

Now I'm able to help other women who struggle with weight and dieting in the same way that I was. Being entirely virtual means, I'm able to help women all over the map. Seeing those ah-ha moments when everything clicks and they're seeing results is what keeps me going. It's why I started, and it's why I continue to do this every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The answer to this question is easy: the results that my clients see when they work with me. It is so rewarding and encouraging when I see that my clients are getting the results they want. THIS is why I do what I do. It's what keeps me going through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Taking risks! As a very risk-averse person, this was extremely difficult for me and still is. There are so many risks involved with running a business, both big and small. It can sometimes feel overwhelming, but it's important to step back and see the bigger picture.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Get some guidance (preferably someone who has run a similar business before) that can help support you. Whether it's a coach or peers working alongside you, this is indispensable.
  2. Just start. As a perfectionist, this was really hard for me. But I had a mentor help me move past my perfectionism paralysis and just get out there and start. You can ALWAYS change and evolve your business, so there's no reason to have everything perfect from the beginning. As you go, you will refine and improve your processes. It's ok to still be figuring things out when you're just starting.
  3. Be patient, and don't bite off more than you can chew. I've seen so many people do this - they start a business because they're feeling ambitious, then eventually, it all becomes too much for them, and they quit. To avoid this fate, it's so important to take small action steps as you go rather than trying to do everything at once. Once the ball is rolling, you also need to recognize that Rome wasn't built in a day, and your business won't be either. Be patient and stay consistent with your plan. Slow growth is growth that will last!
