Appropriate, Safe, & Effective - Get Fit Done

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and fitness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Laura Flynn Endres, Founder of Get Fit Done, located in Davis, IL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I do private 1-on-1 and small group personal training, and I also created an online team fitness game! My clients are primarily women ages 50-85, but I also train clients of all ages who have unique health challenges and need something different and safer than the typical workout scene.

Tell us about yourself

I've always been active, played sports, was a cheerleader and a power tumbler, and one day as a young adult, I walked into a Bally's Vic Tanny - I'm aging myself with that one! - and asked for a job. I've been working in fitness ever since.

I absolutely adore my job and my clients. I'm so fortunate to be busy enough that I can only take on clients who are the ideal match for my personality and unique style of training. I'm a firm believer that exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health and to ensure that you not only live longer but that you feel amazing and strong and mobile as long as possible!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I have a full slate of clients with a waiting list! Also, I was one of the fortunate people whose business grew during the pandemic lockdown. I pivoted immediately to online workouts via Zoom, and now I have clients in 5 different time zones and even London!

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Doing everything yourself. I'm busy with clients from 5 am until late afternoon, so by the time I can get to marketing, bus dev, etc., I'm tired, I'm hungry, and I'm not feeling especially creative anymore.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find mentors! And listen to them!
  2. Find your niche, and really dig deeply - you don't have to be all things to all people. What is your unique position in the market? People are looking for that! Or need it and didn't realize it until you came along.
  3. Delegate what you can. Hire an assistant. Pay someone to do marketing. Or barter! I'm trading private training for someone to handle my marketing right now!
