Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in wax seals but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Peter Yuen, Graphic Designer of Get Marked, located in Buffalo, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Get Marked is specialized in creating customized wax seal stamps for weddings, anniversaries, business branding, and other special occasions. It adds an elevated and personal touch to invitations and various packaging for businesses. We work with everyone; as long as you have an idea or concept that you'd like to turn into a wax stamp, we will be more than happy to work with them to bring their concept to life.

Tell us about yourself

I am a Graphic Designer myself. I've worked with various aspects of design, from apparel design, packaging design, and marketing to photography. The one thing that I like about working in the design industry is sharing ideas and working with people. The idea of wax seals caught my attention, as I can see there are endless possibilities with this traditional craft. By having my own business, I was able to spend more time with the family as well. Whenever a returning customer tells me how their friends and family loved their wax seal, or a new customer tells me that they were referred by a friend/colleague. It makes me feel good inside to know such a small product can bring such a positive impact on people.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe in being able to utilize my skills to do what I love and, at the same time, collaborate with creatives around the globe.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is that there are no days off as a business owner. Your mind would constantly be thinking of new ideas or figuring out how to resolve an issue. There are always challenges that you have to face head-on.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Equip yourself with various skills. Usually, you are on your own when starting your business.
  2. Be Patient; it takes time for the business to gain momentum.
  3. Ask for advice, there are so many resources online, and many are happy to share.
