Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kyle McAllister, Founder and President of Global Threads, located in Dallas, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a company of t-shirt enthusiasts, designers, innovators, and problem solvers. From the start, we knew our focus would be on giving life to your visions. We go beyond creative designs. Collaboration has been and continues to be, at the core of generating great ideas and visuals for our customers.

Global Threads initially began as a way to memorialize the travels of our friends, coworkers, and classmates. We've evolved into a full, custom t-shirt-printing company striving to empower you with our hands-on design team and quality tees. Some of our customers include the Best BBQ in DFW, Terry Black's, and some of our other restaurant clients include the Crafty Irishman in Downtown Dallas, Cannon's Corner in Oak cliff, Whiskey Hatchet in Deep Ellum, and Angry Dog.

Over the last year, we have expanded our client list to include some universities on the west coast, and one of our bigger customers is a well-known company in Las Vegas.

Tell us about yourself

I started selling shirts in college and truly fell in love with designing, producing, and selling my own ideas. In a way, it became addictive, and I dreamed of trying to do this full-time one day. My motivation is exceeding customer expectations and ultimately growing GT into a recognizable brand.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being able to grow Global Threads to a sustainable business that employs great people. Helping other people put food on the table is a great feeling.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

As an owner, there is always some sort of problem I'm solving. You prefer the ones on a smaller scale, but you get accustomed to continuous problem-solving. Problems can range from the website being down, UPS or FedEx delaying a shipment, a customer being 15 days late on a payment, power can go out, or a supplier can short you on certain sizes or SKUs ordered, and that's the shortlist. My title at Global Threads is CPS. (Chief Problem Solver)

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start right now, like today! Can't tell you how many people have ideas, but the common thing is they never start.
  2. Start selling your product, service, or experience. Once people start paying you for what you do, you begin to realize it's becoming a business.
  3. If you love the business, all the pain will be worth it.
