What's your business, and who are your customers?

GMR Transcription is a certified women and minority-owned business serving its satisfied customers since 2004. We strive to provide 100% US-based human transcription services with 99% accuracy, which is very important these days after the arrival of AI in the market.

Since the beginning, we have promoted the company values of accuracy, excellent service, and transparency. We are proud to be a trusted and go-to transcription service company for professors, researchers, universities, podcasters, students, businesses, government agencies, court reporting firms, etc.

Tell us about yourself

I went to California State University, Fullerton for a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. After college, I started working at GMR Transcription in 2008, and it’s been almost 16 years now. I started as an Office Manager, then was promoted to Director of Operations in 2009, and became the President in 2019. When I started, I found many students and businesses struggling with transcription & translation needs for various projects. So, I wanted to make GMR Transcription a great resource for these people providing an easy, cost-efficient way to get high-quality transcription and translation services.

Today, I oversee client relations and new business development to expand GMR Transcription’s reach. My focus is also on establishing efficient operations processes, enhancing customer experience, and supporting everyone on our team. I am proud that we have made a difference in the industry by providing high-quality human-based transcription and translation services. Our company plans to continue providing our clients with the most accurate transcription services. I am grateful to be part of the company’s milestones, including doubling our sales and being named one of OC Business Journal’s fastest-growing private companies. Outside of work, I spend time with my family and enjoy camping and fishing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

With over 8.12 million minutes transcribed, being trusted by 12,752+ happy customers, and providing scholarships to students we have had many accomplishments to be proud of. But my most valued accomplishment has been providing jobs to hundreds of US-based individuals who are the heart and soul of GMR. We pride ourselves in the experienced, highly skilled, professional transcriptionists who make up our team. They work hard to provide our clients with top-notch transcripts following complicated formatting requests and meeting strict deadlines.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I am responsible for making smart decisions that will keep my business profitable. Ultimately, it is my responsibility to ensure the company's success and that could be stressful at times. My main goal is to keep my employees and customers happy. It is important to me to retain talented employees and create a positive, welcoming work environment. Also, providing competitive compensation and benefits and encouraging open communication and collaboration among my team members. And just as important, I want to ensure that our customers receive high-quality transcripts and outstanding services. That their special requirements are met and that GMR exceeds their expectations. These are essential components of a successful business and require careful attention and management.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Ensure that your business is filling a real need or want of your target ideal customer.
  2. Under-promise and over-deliver to maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
