Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daniel Sieberg, co-founder and CMO of GoodTrust, located in Menlo Park, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our mission is to help anyone protect what matters with easy and secure online estate planning and digital legacy tools. You can create an entire will-based or trust-based estate plan in less time than it takes to do the laundry and all for the cost of one cup of coffee per day. GoodTrust customers are typically people with life moments (buying a home, starting a family, marriage, etc.) aged 35-65 who need affordable and accessible estate planning. We also offer a Digital Vault that ties it all together in a secure manner and allows for ease of sharing and storing important documents.

Tell us about yourself

I've worked at the intersection of technology and humanity for the better part of 25 years and believe strongly in the opportunity to empower people toward a better life. I started as a science and technology journalist for the likes of CNN and CBS News, later worked at Google for several years in marketing, and eventually into entrepreneurship though I've also worked at other big companies, including Huawei USA and Moody's Analytics. I've written or co-written two books - Digital Diet and Digital Legacy - and advised a number of startups in their journey.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing the positive impact on the lives of our customers and seeing the growth of our incredible team.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The uncertainty. All about embracing the unknown.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
  2. Find ways to integrate self-care.
  3. Ensure your family understands the challenging realities and demands.
