Activating the Best of You! - Great in 8 Coaching

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in career development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joan Tabb, Founder of Great in 8 Coaching, located in Santa Rosa, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a career and executive coach. My business is to empower my clients to bring the BEST of them to their career lives. My clients are aspirational, highly motivated, achievement-oriented professionals. They understand the value of a strategic partner to help guide them through a process that goes both internally and externally to bring the best of them to the world.

Tell us about yourself

I bring a 20+ year corporate management and leadership track record plus 15+ years of coaching to my clients. I have been on all sides of the professional table and can help them see themselves clearly and gain an understanding of how to best position themselves for success. Unlike other coaches, I also bring powerful training expertise, so not only do we build on your strengths, but we identify and mitigate your challenges with effective training.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing my clients get to where they want to go faster and more effectively. Plus, every single client leaves our work together with a more robust career toolbox of skills and strategies they will use and build on throughout their career! I am committed to lifelong learning and show my clients how to do this, too!

I am also proud to be an author of two books,  Building Blocks for the New Retirement and Great in 8: Job Seeking Skills, and have written and published over 100+ Dear Coach Joan: Career Advice articles.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Doing my own tech support!!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand your market and see if there is a real need and desire for your product/service.
  2. Understand the competition and how you compare.
  3. Don't leave your day job until you have clients/customers lined up.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

In most cases, my advice is to work for others to learn a lot of skills and gain insight into the world of work before you choose to go out on your own.
