What's your business, and who are your customers?
I provide custom resumes, cover letters, and other job search documents for senior executives and corporate officers in the US and worldwide.
Tell us about yourself
I've been writing resumes for more than 20 years, with more than 18,000 documents prepared. I own and operate two online resume companies, www.a-perfect-resume.com, and www.milliondollarresumes.com. My motivation each day is that I love what I do, and I enjoy helping people achieve their goals of a new or better job.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I would say either writing my book, The New Guide To Writing A Perfect Resume, or operating a successful business for more than 20 years with a better than 99% customer satisfaction rate. I've also helped several other companies get started and created new services and products used in the industry.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Overseeing every aspect of the business. You have to know sales, marketing, customer service, financials, technology, and administration in addition to actually doing the writing.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start part-time and grow it while you keep your day job.
- Make sure you have enough money in the bank to get you through hard times.
- Never spend more than you make, and always anticipate an emergency expense, like a new computer.
