Advance Your Practice Awaken Your Truth - Gypsea Yoga School

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Courtney Fletcher, Founder of GypSea Yoga School, located in Uvita, Puntarenas, Costa Rica.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Gypsea Yoga School: Yoga Teacher Trainings 200, 300, Costa Rica & Online. Private and group yoga & meditation mentorships. Our highly trained facilitators have decades of experience teaching and share this experience so that our students are ready to not only be the best version of themselves but share that with others through teaching.

We honor yoga as a path through which everyone can become their most divine selves. Embarking on this journey means a quest for self-knowledge, love, and freedom. We are committed to raising the collective consciousness through meditation, breath, movement, and service. Our heart-centered approach donates a portion of all profits to the Kids' Foundation for Uniting Nations.

Tell us about yourself

Hi, I'm Courtney, an ex-gymnast, spinally fused, 18-year yogi, Ashtangi, trained in India, with a gypSEA soul whose practice draws from Hatha, kundalini, and Vinyasa. My heart-centered approach evokes an understanding of interconnectedness through a focus on self-love, nature, and seva (service). The intention is for my students to discover the light within that ignites their path to inner peace, the connection which opens the heart to universal love.

After 10 years as a competitive gymnast, lower back surgery brought my athletic ability to a halt. Looking for a way to ease the pain and regain strength and flexibility, I discovered yoga and immediately fell in love with the practice, quickly learning its transformational power over the mind and path to freedom. Embarking on this journey meant a lifelong quest for self-knowledge, love, and humility.

In 2010 I volunteered in India and earned my yoga teaching certification. My time in India inspired me to establish my own NGO, Kids' Foundation for Uniting Nations, which connects and inspires kids around the world to initiate positive change through service.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The opportunity to change lives for the better. Many of our students come to us during a big life change (break up, career change, death in the family, etc.) and leave with tools to heal their subconscious impressions so they have the freedom to live in the presence and accomplish their life goals.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest part of owning my own business is navigating some of the aspects that I'm not an expert in, for example, marketing and advertising. Luckily, many of our students sign up based on word-of-mouth referrals.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Begin with a solid business plan, including a marketing and growth plan.
  2. Get an accountant! Be diligent about your monthly accounting.
  3. Pick something you're passionate about and good at.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We are all expressions of the one divine Source. Our courses lead students to remember the Truth of who they are so that they can shine as an example to remind others of that Light.
