What's your business, and who are your customers?

Happy Food helps people thrive in life in a healthier and happier body. We focus on nutrition, behavioral change, and getting to the root cause of what's keeping you stuck. Clients come to us to lose weight, but they walk away, changing their entire lifestyle, including relationships, careers, and a better relationship with themselves and food.

Tell us about yourself

I used to travel the world, focusing on research and conservation. When I came home to visit, everyone was on a miserable diet and diagnosed with some ailments. I've always enjoyed the topic of food and nutrition and decided to start Happy Food, a holistic health coaching practice, in 2009. Shortly after starting, I realized that it's so much more than "calories in and calories out" or "what to eat and what not to eat." Our mindset propels us towards thriving or sabotages us to merely surviving. It turns out that I love this part most. I'm excited to validate, connect the puzzle pieces that get us out of self-sabotage, and share my story when relevant because we are more alike than we are different. I love watching people transform.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I believe that changing individual lives is powerful because not only are each important, but those people then go out and become the beacon for everyone else. That's what the world needs - lots of us sparking positive change in each other by just being ourselves.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

As a sole business owner, all responsibilities fall on me to wear too many hats. There are aspects of my business that I don't enjoy. At least I get to focus on connecting and improving people's lives.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My top 3 tips would be to focus on a growth mindset, get behind the scene logistics in order but not be bogged down by them, and do everything you can, in the beginning, to get in front of a crowd (literally and via social media).
