Helping People Become Unstoppable - Harriet Turk

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Harriet Turk, Founder of Harriet Turk, LLC, located in Germantown, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a personal development coach, an executive consultant, and a frequent speaker for conferences and trainings. I work with people who feel they have lost their direction, are experiencing burnout, or feel that it may be too late for them to achieve their goals and live the life they once planned. I also coach new and emerging speakers who are taking the idea of becoming a professional speaker from a dream to a reality.

Tell us about yourself

My career path has varied, and I've worked in many different fields. Although the roles have been vastly different, the continued theme has been to connect people and organizations, to eliminate doubts, insecurities, and limiting beliefs, and to develop strategies and systems people may use as a foundation for success. When the plans come together, and my clients start to "see the light" and realize they are about to change the trajectory of their life, it is a message that I'm doing the work I was meant to do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

After years of doing everything myself and spending so much time on things I either wasn't good at or didn't want to do, I finally hired a few people to do those tasks so I could focus on what I do best. Huge game changer.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There has always been some insecurity about whether I would "make it." Eliminating the anxiety about money or having enough clients is a tough one. Even though I've been doing this work for many, many years and have a successful business, there's always a "what if..." whisper that I have to ignore.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't jump in too quickly to gain the "bigger, better" client. Start small and work your way up.
  2. Marketing will only take you so far. You must have the knowledge, education, and experience to get and keep your customers.
  3. Network, network, network.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Remember creating a successful business takes a ton of work. When you get tired and feel like nothing is working, re-visit why you are doing this and what would happen if you gave up.
