Where Home and Life Meet, Naturally - Hazy Harbor

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Makenna Moore, Founder of Hazy Harbor, located in Joplin, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Hazy Harbor is the name of my company. Named after my girls, we are a natural home and wellness boutique specializing in clean, non-toxic products you can feel good about using on and around your family. Everything we carry we handcraft in small batches or sourced from artisans around the United States. Our customers are typically women between the ages of 18-40 looking to choose products that are clean, safe for their family, look beautiful, and work!

Tell us about yourself

I'm a Jesus-loving, 30-something from Missouri. I'm a wife and mama to the sweetest little girls. What started as a passion for finding and creating natural, clean, and safe products for my family grew into a dream to share those same products with others. My family is the backbone behind Hazy Harbor, and they motivate me every day to keep moving forward.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has been just taking the steps to make it happen. I was a stressed, postpartum mom when Hazy Harbor took root in my mind. I tried to talk myself out of it more times than I cared to count, but in the end, I pushed those negative thoughts aside and began this awesome adventure.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

For me, one of the hardest things is balancing being a wife and mama and a business owner. I stay at home with my girls, so separating "home" and "work" can get foggy without clear boundaries in place.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. To start. That's it- Just start. There will never be a perfect time. Starting can be scary, but it's so worth it.
  2. Don't be afraid to fail. It sucks, and it's not fun, but few things teach better lessons, and you can grow so much from failure!
  3. Don't brag about what you're going to do. Just put your head down, put in the hard work, and let your results speak for you. Stay humble, work hard, and be generous.
