Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Erica Jain, CEO of Healthie, located in New York, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Healthie is a technology company that offers telehealth, business management, and coaching tools for digital health startups, retail stores, health and wellness clinics, and other organizations. Healthie's software and API help companies of all sizes deliver virtual and in-person care.

Tell us about yourself

We were motivated to start Healthie because I had watched my parents change their lifestyle and lose 35 pounds each with the help of a corporate wellness team centered on nutrition and behavioral health care. Working in the industry, I quickly realized that health tech platforms had been designed around a different health care model: in-person, one-time, physician-only care that ignored 95% of health care decisions & experiences. Realized that the industry needed to re-think the member experience, which is where Healthie came from. Motivated to work as hard as possible each day to ensure our customers, who are powering front-line innovation in digital health, are able to focus on what they do best: providing client care because they have a reliable, feature-rich software partner in Healthie.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Observing the impact that our customers have on access to healthcare
our organizations serve over 1.5 million patients, delivering preventative, personalized, and longitudinal care.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Learning how to take breaks. In our early days, we used to think it was possible to 'sprint the marathon' and have learned over time that breaks are good for everyone: a fresh perspective, a focus on productivity, and the ability to execute for the long run. As a business owner, it's possible to work 24/7 and still have more to do, so setting boundaries for yourself is incredibly important & something that I have learned over time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just get started.
  2. Scaling a business takes 5-10 years; pick an industry & problem that you couldn't imagine not doing, and know that you're signing up for a marathon.
  3. Your team is your biggest asset - set mission & goals, empower, and create an environment for personal and professional success.
