Your Success is My Purpose - Higher Calling Consulting

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in leadership development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Rich Parsons,  Founder of Higher Calling Consulting, LLC., located in Colorado Springs, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Under the umbrella of Higher Calling Consulting, LLC is Your Success Magazine, which is a media platform for entrepreneurs and business professionals that are seeking to increase their credibility, expert status, and exposure to a global audience.

Tell us about yourself

After retiring from the United States Air Force in December 2018, with 27 years of honorable service, I started my business, Higher Calling Consulting. I went on later in 2019 to attend an international certification event with the John Maxwell Team, where I became certified as a speaker, trainer, and coach.

Later in January 2021, I launched Your Success Magazine and have been working with aspiring and experienced entrepreneurs to help them share their messages with the world. I am excited about the future of Higher Calling Consulting and Your Success Magazine! My motivation really comes from my inner desire and higher calling to help people achieve the success that they most desire, whether that is in their personal or professional life. I am well-prepared to come alongside and help them achieve success.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Aside from taking the step to launch my business, I would have to say that launching and growing Your Success Magazine has been one of my biggest accomplishments as a business owner. I have booked all of my front cover spots through 2023 and have started booking into 2024.

Over the past 20 months or so, I have been able to work with some pretty amazing contributors and business partners to create the monthly issues, as well as some special issues dedicated to highlighting local entrepreneurs here in Colorado Springs, CO, as well as those on an international level with Forbes Riley and her community. There are magazine projects that I am proud of, but those are a couple that comes to mind.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think the hardest thing that comes with being a business owner is really expressing the value that comes from the service being provided. Having connected with many of my peers in the coaching arena, as well as magazine and book publishing, it's been pretty consistent that there will always be objections to whatever is being offered. But that is okay because it means that the person on the other end is not ready to make the commitment at that time.

One of my good friends, Don McGrath, has a product, The Six Minute Webinar, that is designed specifically to repel those that are not your ideal client. I have worked with Don, been a part of his workshops, and even provided some coaching to a few people interested in his product, and one of the biggest things to overcome, at least initially, is that people will say "no" to your offer.

However, when you realize that the offer is not for them, then you can move on to those that are interested and say "yes" to the product, service, or offer that you are presenting.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

I will continue a little with the fact that it's okay to have people say "no" to your product, service, or offer. However, if all you get are negative responses, you have to do a little homework to figure out why that is. Here are three questions I would ask when doing your homework:

  1. Is there a problem with what I am offering?
  2. Am I attracting the right people?
  3. Do I need to bring on someone to help me out (i.e., a coach or mentor)?

The reality is that most people are looking to start, run and grow a business will need a coach or mentor at some point. I know I have collaborated with multiple people along the way that have provided coaching, mentoring, or some level of assistance to help me move the needle forward in life and business.

Most recently, I had a trade-off deal with a contributor in my magazine that is a Mindset Coach. He received some space in my magazine for a discussion I needed to overcome a hurdle I was facing.

Bottom line... It's okay to ask for help!!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I would love to have a discussion with entrepreneurs that want to learn more about Your Success Magazine and how it might fit into their business marketing strategy. There are multiple opportunities to get involved with the magazine, whether it's a single entry as an Expert Contributor or signing on for a Max Exposure or Elite Contributor opportunity.
