Human Centred Analytics Framework - Holistic Analytics

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tasman Murray, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Holistic Analytics, located in South Yarra, VIC, Australia.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our main business is Holistic Analytics. Our customers are media agencies and large corporations with $1m+ annual media spends who want to understand how to get the most out of their media and turn media results into dollars rather than vanity media metrics.

Tell us about yourself

I started Holistic Analytics after doing similar work in a media agency for a while. During my time working with different clients, I was able to see the significant amounts of fraud being perpetuated either intentionally or through misadventure. I understood there was significant scope to help businesses avoid these issues and to help the right agencies deliver better results for their clients.

The part that motivates me most when delivering this kind of work is seeing a business change its operations, shifting its focus, and creating more cohesive messaging, especially between marketing and finance teams, that helps to drive significant improvements in performance for the business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of the most significant accomplishments we have had, apart from the strong partnerships we have formed with multiple clients, was saving a client over $30m in wasted spend in the first month of working with them.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about being a business owner is the uncertainty. You are constantly thinking about how you can build your pipeline, if you have enough clients, and what you need to do to grow and build. It's not as simple as getting the same paycheck every month, which makes it harder to plan and forecast.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you are solving a problem. There is nothing worse than a business that has a solution nobody needs.
  2. Don't try to do it all alone. Make partnerships and connections as much as you can where you can help each other.
  3. Ensure a consistent delivery for clients. You want your worst delivery to still be their best delivery.
