Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jill Robbins, owner of Homefree, LLC, located in Windham, New Hampshire, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We offer inclusion! That is, we make multiple-award-winning allergy-friendly cookies that are delicious and wholesome for everyone and that also include people with most special diets, including vegan, gluten-free, kosher pareve, and peanut/nut-free. Our boxed cookies and single-serve bags are in retail stores and also in foodservice locations such as hotels, colleges, cafes, and office breakrooms.

Tell us about yourself

I started Homefree "treats you can trust" as a clinical psychologist and as the mom of a child with multiple food allergies. I wanted everyone to be able to join in socially together when treats are served. So I created Homefree cookies and other baked goods to be so delicious and healthy that everyone will enjoy them and so carefully made that people with the most dietary restrictions and lifestyle choices can join in too. What motivates me is hearing from customers who derive joy from our products.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was bringing together a strong team, as the team members are largely the reason for our company's development and ongoing improvements.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Much as you may love and value your business and working on it, it can be hard to find time for anything else.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Love what you do, and it won't feel like work. Plan for the long-term financial needs before you begin. Bring in people to help as early as you can.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

We're a certified Women-Owned Business and also a certified B Corporation for our strong commitment to social responsibility and sustainability.
