Teach Thru Simple Play - Homeschool Languages

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Cindy Oswald, Owner of Homeschool Languages, located in Casper, WY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

You want your kid to learn a language... but he doesn't read yet. Ugh! All the programs out there have "match the words," "fill in the blank," and "color the Tigre"... yeah, it doesn't work for you. We've made an award-winning, open-and-go, language-learning curriculum (really.. it's even scripted for you!) that DOESN't starts with farm animals.

We actually use culture and play-based activities (no worksheets, yasss) to teach words you're constantly using in the home. That way, it becomes a "living language" in your own home... and slowly, one word in English is replaced with your target language... then 2.. then sentences.. until you're a bilingual family. YEP, THAT'S EASY!! The CUTEST no-prep curriculum that YOU, someone who doesn't even speak the language, can teach at home.

That's our business and our amazing customers!

Tell us about yourself

Hi! I'm Cindy!!! I wanted to teach my son Spanish (I'm fluent, non-native!), but just throwing Spanish phrases at him (I think it's called "immersing??") didn't work. I noticed he needed to be introduced to the language (but he was 4 at the time.. so it needed to be in a fun way), and then he'd throw in more Spanish around the house than I would!! HE motivates EVERY SINGLE product we have. Even if we had no customers, I would still create for the love of my own child... I love watching him learn and grow! I'm just lucky I'm surrounded by other families who feel the same!!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Being smart enough to outsource certain jobs out to people who are smarter and better than me, haha!! There's no way we could be all that we are if I didn't delegate to the amazing people on our team.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having so many ideas that you have to focus on one (or just a few!) at a time until it's finished before moving on. I'm definitely a starter, not a finisher, haha! Having people around me who are more right-brained and deadline oriented has been a real help.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Use God. He's so cool; he'll open doors WIDE open if you involve him! (Scripture says pray over your field and flocks... you can pray for your job and products!).
  2. Sell to yourself. Have YOU be your ideal client. That way, you'll never be out of ideas, and as you solve your own problems around you with a product you create, you'll be solving the same problem for others!
  3. Launch before you're ready. There's a lot of motivation that comes from a cute, finished website and people who are waiting for your product!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Growing a business is FUN. If it's not fun (even those all-nighters you're pulling!), then you need to add some kind of flare to it. SO HAVE FUN, dream, and watch it come true!!!
