Changing Lives, One Room at a Time - I Dare-ya Designs

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in interior design but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daria Bunting, Owner of I Dare-ya Designs, located in Victoria, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I Dare-ya Designs is a small residential interior design business located in beautiful Victoria, BC. I help clients in creating homes that delight them.

Tell us about yourself

Years ago, I decided to go back to school to take Interior Design since I had the desire to have a career where I could be creative. I was the person my friends would ask for advice on paint colors and space planning, this came naturally to me, and I loved helping. After completing the Interior Design program, I started working designing and selling closet systems. I knew at that time I would start my own business, and the name will be I Dare-ya Designs. It took a few years to make the leap which I started as a side hustle and then full-time in January 2020.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the freedom to take on the projects I want and work with the people I choose while building great connections along the way.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The hardest thing about working as a solo entrepreneur is doing it on your own. I have found building great relationships in your field is key to being able to collaborate with others and bounce ideas.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Decide on a business that you are excited about and do something that comes naturally to you.
  2. Build connections with people in the same industry to learn, grow and refer work.
  3. Promote your business with everyone you know. Join a networking group to surround yourself with like-minded, talented business owners. Make a presence online with a good website, promote yourself, and share on social media to get noticed. People work with people they like and trust. Build your community.
