Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danyel Pullen, Owner of Infinite Source of Melanin LLC., located in Decatur, GA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is in the field of art and fashion design, which surrounds a clothing brand called 'Infinite Source of Melanin.' My customers consist of individuals who look to be motivated and inspired every day by means of innovative streetwear fashion.

Tell us about yourself

Ever since childhood, I've had a passion for art and other forms of artistic expression. I officially set on my mission to start a clothing brand in 2020. It was some time after the national news coverage of Minnesota native George Floyd's murder by police brutality. As an African American man, seeing the video footage of the incident resonated with me. The echoes of pain and frustration in society are what truly inspired me to create a brand that uplifts and empowers everyone, especially those in the black community. As I continue to set on this daily mission, I strive to keep God at the core of my business and create apparel that promotes positivity and healing.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Having the opportunity to connect with so many individuals and make a lasting impact on them through my business is a major accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest struggles of being a business owner is maintaining motivation after encountering failures. A person's pride and focus can take a major hit when it happens, but one must be resilient.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your 'WHY.' Knowing why you're looking to start a business and what problem you're looking to solve is crucial in the beginning stages. This determines the trajectory of your business as well as its foundation. Always make sure your 'why' is solid enough so that you can remain motivated during the process.
  2. Always look for opportunities to learn more about how to operate more efficiently and effectively in your business. Take advantage of networking to build relationships with like-minded individuals in your field. Also, do your due diligence to learn about finance, credit, budgeting, social media, and marketing. These things will help grow your business.
  3. Embrace change. You will have to renew your mindset in order to take on a business, and this means changing how you approach fear. Never let the fear of failure prevent you from taking the next step in your entrepreneurship journey. Embrace your present victories. Consider the courage it takes to even begin starting a business and celebrate that. Any business owner should be proud because it's a gateway to building a legacy. In addition to embracing change, there will be sunny mornings and rainy nights in the process; however, keep in mind why you started in the first place. Let that reminder fuel you to keep going and never give up!
