Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Braden Walker, Owner of Initium Creative, located in Kouts, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Initium Creative is a media company that specializes in video production and web design and development. We work with an assortment of clients, from non-profits to small and medium-sized businesses of all kinds.

Tell us about yourself

I have helped start or have been brought in to help fix multiple businesses throughout my career. The majority of my career has been in video production, but in 2011 I helped start a web company in Colorado Springs. After years of helping others build their businesses, I decided to do it for myself. So in January 2019, I formed Initium Creative and have been growing my own business ever since. What motivates me is my wife and kids and a vision God has given me to build something bigger than this business. Something that will help bring those less fortunate or that don't have the opportunity but the raw talent for the arts and help them grow in their craft and in life and become the artist they were created to be and be successful at it.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It seems that as my business keeps growing, that biggest accomplishment keeps changing. From starting out with hardly any video equipment and building it up more and more to surviving the pandemic, when quite a few small businesses failed, to creating more in-depth and amazing projects for my clients, it is a great ongoing accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The balance of all the roles and staying financially secure. There have been a lot of sacrifices my family and I have had to make to make this work. Keeping your eyes set on the direction and what's being built can be incredibly tough.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. If you are married and/or have a family, make sure they stay in the know of what is going on in the business and are prepared for what will be and feel like a rollercoaster ride.
  2. Stay hyper-focused and limit distractions in your daily routine.
  3. It is easy to get discouraged and want to give up. What/who are you going back to for direction and hope?
